Jonathan Helton
Dr. Jonathan Helton is a renowned American saxophonist and educator with an outstanding international career. He is a professor of saxophone at the University of Florida School of Music, where he continues to pursue a distinguished artistic and academic career. Before that, he was a member of the faculty at Northwestern University (1992–1999), where he taught saxophone and chamber music, in addition to coordinating the wind and percussion programs.
Helton studied at the North Carolina School of the Arts and Northwestern University, training under some of the most influential figures in classical saxophone: James Houlik, Frederick Hemke, Daniel Deffayet, and Jean-Marie Londeix.
As a concert performer, he has toured extensively in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia, performing in cities such as Chicago, Montreal, Paris, London, Beijing, Singapore, Bangkok, Taipei, Washington, D.C., Miami, Vancouver, and at Lincoln Center in New York. His versatility has led him to perform as a soloist, in chamber music, and with leading orchestras and wind ensembles.

Notable among his performances are collaborations with the New Riverside Philharmonic in New York, the Winston-Salem Symphony, the Northwestern University Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the University of Florida Symphony Orchestra, the Harper Symphony Orchestra, and ensembles participating in the 12th and 15th World Saxophone Congresses.
Orchestral experience includes performances with highly prestigious institutions such as the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Grant Park Symphony, the Jacksonville Symphony, and the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, among many others.
Helton has also recorded for various labels, including Centaur, Elf/Ludwig, Innova, Mark Records, and Music from Northwestern, both as a soloist and as part of a chamber ensemble.
Recognized for his contributions to classical saxophone, he is a Selmer artist and clinician and a former president of the North American Saxophone Alliance.
