Anibal Hernandez

Aníbal J. Hernández Pagán, a Puerto Rican trombonist, conductor, and music educator with an outstanding career in orchestral performance, musical theater, and music education. He holds a Master of Music degree with a concentration in trombone from Western Michigan University, where he served as a graduate assistant in trombone, teaching applied trombone and chamber music, and a Bachelor of Music degree with a concentration in trombone from the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music.

As a musician, he has served as principal trombonist and second trombonist in professional ensembles such as the Florida Rock Orchestra, the Miami Wind Symphony, the Miami Pixel Orchestra, and the South Florida Youth Symphony, with which he has toured internationally in Italy and Panama. He has performed as a soloist with the Puerto Rico Youth Symphony Orchestra and has served as principal trombonist in more than 20 Broadway musicals in the United States and internationally, performing a wide-ranging repertoire of classical and contemporary works. In addition, he has collaborated with renowned Latin pop artists such as Luis Fonsi, Kany García, Cultura Profética, and Christian Castro, and has worked as a showband musician for Carnival Cruise Lines.

In addition to his artistic career, he is the founder and CEO of A and V Music and Entertainment. Ha ocupado cargos como director de la banda de la Mater Bay Academy, director adjunto de la banda de la Miami Arts Charter School y director de la Young Sousa’s Band y de la Concert Band de la Greater Miami Youth Symphony. In Puerto Rico, he served as a trombone professor at the Preparatory School of the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music and as a brass instructor in the institution’s 100×35 Program, contributing to the musical development of students in both educational and community settings. Throughout his career as a teacher and director, he has led his ensembles to receive ratings of “Excellent” and “Superior” at music festivals in the state of Florida, as well as at the Florida Bandmasters Association’s Music Performance Assessments (MPA).

Hernández Pagán has been an active participant in the international trombone community, attending prestigious events such as the International Trombone Festival, the Cleveland Trombone Seminar, the Third Coast Trombone Retreat, and the Mulcahy Summer Seminar, as well as Joe Alessi’s residency in Puerto Rico, and was accepted into Christian Lindberg’s master class at the Musikhochschule Lübeck in Germany. Among his accolades are first place in the Sanromá Interdepartmental Competition at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, as well as numerous awards and scholarships from Western Michigan University. His primary teachers include Dr. Luis Fred, Dr. Steve Wolfinbarger, and Ramón Serra.
