Xiomara González Castillo

Violinist

She began studying violin with her father, Mario de Obaldia Alvarado, in 1978 and also was a member of the ensemble Strings of Chiriquí, the first chamber orchestra that existed in the province. This ensemble was founded by Mr. de Obaldía.

In 1999 she obtained a degree in Music with emphasis on violin and in 2012 the Master of Arts with emphasis in Musical Arts at the University of Costa Rica. Her prestigious teachers include: Walter Field, Guido Calvo, and Eddie Mora.

She worked as a violin and viola instructor, as well as conductor of strings orchestral programs in various schools of music from the University of Costa Rica, the National Institute of Music of Costa Rica, the Suzuki Program, the School of Music in Paradise Cartago, the Municipality of Cartago, and the National Music Education System (SINEM) of Costa Rica. In February 2013, she moved back to Panama to live permanently in her hometown Chiriquí.

Violinist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica since 1996 and tenure member of the same orchestra from 2002 to February 2013, she currently teaches violin, viola and cello at the School of Fine Arts of the City of David. She is teacher, director, and founder of the Chamber Orchestra of Mario de Obaldía Alvarado, the Children and Youth Orchestra of Chiriqui, and the Foundation Mario de Obaldía Alvarado.
