Lucrecia Basaldúa (Cello)

Lucrecia Basaldúa is chair of the violoncello department at the EUM (University School of Music) of Montevideo, Uruguay, Assistant Soloist of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Montevideo, and Second Interim Soloist of the Symphony Orchestra of SODRE.

She studied with professors Pedro Laniella, Juarez Johnson, and Marie Alicie Brandao, and participated in courses with Roger Malitz, Marcio Malard, David Chew, Frank Lamsweerde, Wolfgang Laufer, and Lauro del Claro.

In chamber music she was a member of the Anahí Quartet (under the guidance of Fernando Hasaj) and the Arsis Trio. With Sinopus she participated in New York in the album Te amo Tango by Raul Jaurena, which was awarded the Latin Grammy. With the ensemble Quixote she participated in the various chamber music concert seasons. Currently she is a member of a duo with pianist Martin Troche.

She has performed as soloist with the OSSODRE and the Montevideo Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Ligia Amadio, Tiago Flores, Martin Lebel, Álvaro Hagopian and Martin Garcia. She has performed in various concert halls in Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Panama, Germany and the United States. She excels in the premiere of works by contemporary composers, especially Latin American ones.

She has been faculty of the Alfredo De Saint Malo International Music Festival of Panama and she has been an active member of the Camerata Alfredo De Saint Malo of Panama. She has also been member of the International Cello Orchestra created towards the event “Concierto Mulheres, a song of resistance,” held in Sao Paulo.

Within her duties as Violoncello Chair of the EUM, she organizes lectures, workshops and seminars by professors of international career highlights.
