Euridice Alvarez was recently appointed as the Assistant Professor of Oboe at Northern Colorado University (UNC) in Greeley. She started her oboe studies at the Victoriano López School of Music in her native country Honduras with Leonel López, and José Angel Abrego. She continued her education with American oboists Patricia Malone, Doris DeLoach, Geoffrey Burgess (Baroque oboe) and Richard Killmer.
She has been a member of several professional ensembles including Meridian Symphony, Gulf Coast Symphony, Mississippi Symphony, Waco Symphony, Temple Symphony, San Angelo Symphony, Rapides Symphony and Avanti Symphony.
She has performed as a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Honduras, The Philharmonic Orchestra of San Pedro Sula, the USM Symphony Orchestra and the Avanti Symphony Orchestra in Washington, DC.
Dr. Alvarez participated and won several competitions including the Gold Medal at the Tutto Diffent Competition in Honduras (1993), finalist at the Ducrest Young Artists International Competition in Louisiana (2000), won the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Woodwind Concerto Competition (2000) and the MTNA Collegiate Artist State Competition (2000, 2002). She was a finalist in the Baylor University Concerto Competition (2004) and was awarded Second Place in the Baylor University Concerto Competition (2005). Dr. Alvarez has participated in various tours including a tour of the East Coast of the United States with the American Wind Symphony Orchestra (2000), a tour of Italy with the USM Wind Ensemble (2001) and tours of France and England with the USM Southern Chorale (2003). She performed as a soloist with the Nazareth Chamber Orchestra (NY) during a performance tour of The Bahamas (2010).
Most recently, Dr. Alvarez toured several universities in Florida (2011) and Panama City, Panama with the USM Woodwind Quintet Category 5 (2012).
Beginning her teaching experience in 1994 as an Oboe Instructor in Honduras, Dr. Alvarez has taught numerous students privately and through teaching assistantships at Baylor University and at the Eastman School of Music. In Rochester, NY she was an oboe professor at the Eastman Community School of Music, Houghton College and Nazareth College; and in Hattiesburg, MS at The University of Southern Mississippi. She has presented master classes in Florida, Mississippi, Honduras, Costa Rica and Panama. Dr. Alvarez holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from The University of Southern Mississippi (USM), Presser Scholar (2002), a Master of Music Degree from Baylor University and a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.
